HNC in Nautical Science (SCQF Level 7) develops knowledge and skills in areas such as chartwork and tides, navigational mathematics and science, marine meteorology, bridge monitoring, sea freight operations, ship stability, naval architecture and celestial navigation.

This course provides the training and qualifications necessary for employment in the Merchant Marine as a Guard Deck Officer.

The course is divided into five phases consisting of time at university studying for your academic qualification and time at sea doing work-based learning.

The course will take approximately 3 years to complete.

Upon successful completion of the course, you will have an HNC Nautical Science and your OOW (Unlimited) Certificate of Competency.
